As I might have mentioned,
6,000 times and that was just on twitter I was recently fired for the very first time.* It kind of sucked but has also turned out the be the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time.
I wanted to check in today and say thank you to everyone who has commented and tweeted such kind words. In the past couple of days, I have read horrifying stories of bad bosses and they make me want to high five you all for getting out and also just hug you to pieces for having to go through it.
A quick update on the workforce situation:
- I accepted my first substitute job with Seattle Public Schools which I will start tomorrow. It’s not easy work but it’s in my field, pays a lot better, and I am the most excited about it.
- I went in to turn in my uniform yesterday with my favorite coworker (remember Francis?). She had planned to give her notice long before any of this happened but after we spoke on Thursday she told me she couldn’t work in a place like that anymore.Yesterday Francis walked in, turned in her uniform and keys and walked out. I am a perfect mix of honored and proud of her. She is a special human who deserves so much better.
- I still miss my coworkers, but I got to see a couple of them yesterday and will soon be planning a get together.
So it’s all feeling good, in fact better than it has in a long time. Thank you to everyone reading, you are all perfect little unicorns.
Best of luck.
*I promise this won’t be my topic forever, this is the second in a three-post series on getting fired.
